Nobunaga's Ambition is a turn-based strategy game which can be played in different modes. Players take on the role of Nobunaga Oda or one of many other daimyos to try to conquer Japan. One of those daimyos was the ambitious Nobunaga Oda, a merciless ruler and a renowned strategist. Many dreamt of conquering the land, becoming the Shogun and ruling the entire country. These daimyos would often go to war with each other.
The game is available only in Japanese and English.In the 16th century, Japan's Sengoku ("Warring States") period divided the nation into numerous feudal states, each ruled by a daimyo. Therefore, the whole thing is minimalistic, focusing only on gameplay qualities, so the title is intended primarily for fans of the genre and retro climates. Visuals of Nobunaga's Ambition do not differ much from the original. Victory is possible in several ways, including forcing an adversary to retreat or destroying their command center.
The game takes place in a turn-based system - this applies both to tactical map games, where each turn corresponds to one season of the year, as well as to clashes with the opponent's forces when individual rounds are the equivalent of single days. The players' task is to obtain wealth and resources, build a thriving economy, maintain high morale of their subjects and field an invincible army - all in order to face the neighboring clans that threaten their interests.
The gameplay in Nobunaga's Ambition takes place on a two-dimensional tactical map showing seventeen zones in central Japan. Nobunaga's Ambition enables the players to take on the role of a famous sengoku daimyo (1467-1573) - Nobunaga Oda or Shingen Takeda - to take part in the conquest of the central regions of Japan. In 2016 it was re-released on PC (Steam) as part of the "Kou Shibusawa Archives" program, celebrating 35 years in the video games industry celebrated by the Japanese developer Kou Shibusawa. It made its launch in Japan in 1983, and in 1995 the game come to PC (Windows 3.1), Sega Saturn and PlayStation. Nobunaga's Ambition is a turn-based strategy game developed by Koei Tecmo Games.
